Hello, and welcome.
If you’ve found your way here, thank you for stopping by. Whether you’re a fellow photographer, someone who simply enjoys looking at photographs, or you’re just curious about the stories behind the images, I hope you’ll find something here that inspires you.

My name is David Wagstaff-Myers, and I’ve been a professional photographer for over twenty years. During that time, I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph people, places, businesses, products, events and landscapes across the UK. Every assignment has taught me something new, and despite carrying a camera for much of my life, I still believe photography is one of those crafts where you’re always learning.
This blog isn’t going to be a technical manual.
There are already thousands of websites explaining which camera is best or what settings you should use. While I’ll occasionally talk about equipment, lenses and techniques, that’s only part of the story. Photography has never really been about cameras. It’s about seeing. It’s about noticing the details that other people walk past, waiting for the light to change, and recognising that sometimes the most ordinary moment can become the most memorable photograph.
Recently I’ve rediscovered the pleasure of slowing down by returning to analogue photography. Shooting medium format black and white film has reminded me that photography doesn’t have to be rushed. Every frame costs something, every exposure matters, and every press of the shutter is a deliberate decision. In a world where we’re encouraged to shoot hundreds of images in minutes, film encourages patience—and that’s a lesson that’s valuable whether you’re shooting with the latest digital camera or a forty-year-old classic.
You’ll find a mixture of subjects here.
There will be behind-the-scenes stories from commercial commissions, travel journals from our adventures in the motorhome, visits to steam rallies and wildlife reserves, thoughts on street photography, black and white film, camera reviews, editing techniques, and occasionally my reflections on life itself. Photography has introduced me to fascinating people and remarkable places, and this blog allows me to share both the photographs and the stories that accompany them.
I’ll also write honestly about the realities of being a working photographer. The successful images are wonderful, but there’s just as much to learn from the mistakes, the experiments that didn’t quite work, and the unexpected moments that turned into something far better than originally planned.
If there’s one thing I’ve discovered over the years, it’s that enthusiasm is far more important than owning the latest equipment. Great photographs come from curiosity, observation, patience and the willingness to keep learning. Those qualities don’t become obsolete every time a manufacturer releases a new camera.
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me travelling with my wife Julia and our Border Collie, Wisp, exploring Britain’s coastline, countryside and villages in our motorhome. Those trips often become photographic adventures in themselves, and many of the stories you’ll read here will begin with a simple question: “I wonder what’s over there?”
My hope is that this blog becomes more than a collection of photographs. I want it to be a place where I can share experiences, ideas and conversations with people who enjoy photography as much as I do—regardless of experience or equipment.
So, welcome aboard.
I hope you’ll join me as I continue to explore, learn and, most importantly, enjoy the wonderful world of photography. If one of these articles encourages you to pick up your camera, look at a familiar place differently, or simply appreciate the beauty in everyday life, then this blog will have achieved exactly what I hoped it would.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
